The Civil Aviation Minister has asked airport operators to promote Digi Yatra, which provides for contactless and seamless movement of passengers at various checkpoints at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT). With Indians becoming avid travelers, this is particularly important given preventing congestion at our airports in the forthcoming festive season. Passenger identification is a critical area in which there is scope for improvement in the airline industry. Introducing biometric models like FRT could help fill that gap. With a focus on security in today’s geopolitically fragile world, accurate identification is often the antidote to potential danger. According to government sources, the Digi Yatra facility will be available at 25 more airports in 2024. That is good news.
