The Prime Minister has correctly emphasised the need to be vocal for local. But, unless we are able to deliver localized solutions that produce long-lasting results, it will remain mere rhetoric. India has some specific and important requirements that are best amenable to localized solutions. For example, there is still no electricity, water supply, and adequate roads in parts of the country. However, the pandemic has shown that strategic digitization can achieve in days what would otherwise have taken years. India has the potential, but what is needed is the self-confidence to believe that we too can do it. Innovation in India isn’t easy as the products have to be not only affordable but also compatible with our unique sociocultural milieu. The key is to focus on affordable excellence and value addition. The government can do its bit by constantly enhancing the ease of doing business in the economy.
