There is no doubt that a slow economic revival is underway. However, there is also a valid healthcare concern, which, if not adequately addressed, could derail whatever progress has been made so far. The ongoing festival season and the onset of winter will test the mettle of policymakers. Local authorities need to focus on collective efforts at the grassroots level including improved waste management, development of medical infrastructure and avoiding unnecessary construction activities. To maximize the new-normal, we will need a new set of attitudes towards life and work. Some priorities will need to be changed, and a relentless focus put on vaccine development and its rollout. Pollution control is another key area, as studies have shown that exposure to poor air quality enhances Covid susceptibility. All of us have a role to play in ensuring that the new-normal is handled as deftly as possible.
