America’s decision to quit the World Health Organization (WHO) is worrying. The WHO has been woefully behind the Corona curve, but the way out is to reform the organization, rather than accuse it of some underhand collaborations with China. The WHO got off to a poor start by taking inordinately long to declare Corona as a pandemic, and it dithered in raising a global alarm of its spread beyond China. For example, it could have advised an early closure of international borders, but it did not. On the other hand, America and its allies are also behaving immaturely by abandoning the WHO at a time when it needs understanding more than anything else. So, who should change? It should be not only the WHO, but also the rest of the world which should realize that a venerable institution gathering vital information from across the world and advising national health authorities should be given all the support that it legitimately seeks. No one is perfect and everyone should be given a chance to improve themselves.
