The second wave

01 NOV,2020 | MEDC

Most of Europe is now in the grip of the second wave of the pandemic. Spain and Italy, which were amongst the hardest hit in the first wave, are now the countries taking the most proactive measures in response to the second wave. There is much for India to learn from this. While the first wave seems to be retreating in India, we cannot afford to be overconfident, especially with the festive season around the corner. The pandemic has imposeda huge economic cost on us, and taking it lightly could prove counterproductive. It is almost certain now that Covid will recur in waves, and we are not seeing the end of it for quite some time more. Given this fact, there should be greater cooperation between the state and central governments, and the required healthcare facilities and social infrastructure should be suitably beefed up to ensure that the shortcomings of the past can be avoided.
