The budget has focused on the advancement of technology in agriculture, which is a progressive step. The national vision of doubling farmers' income can be attained by increasing agricultural productivity, and this budget lays out a strategy to that end. The announcement to use Kisan drones to map farm production is welcome. It will allow an accurate estimation of both crop production and crop losses. The government will also benefit by it, as policies are dependent and designed based on reliable numbers. The contribution of our agricultural sector to GDP (especially given its employment potential) is unacceptably low, and value addition is the answer to this anomaly. In this context, the budget's intent on deploying advanced technologies in the sector is commendable. Not only will farmers be benefited by it, but so will the trade and industry dependent upon agriculture. Startups working on agricultural inputs, better farm linkages and financing will also gain from this support for better adoption of technological products by farmers.
