The total number of unique domestic investors investing directly in India’s stock market has now surged to 80 million. The latest 10 million additions took place in just eight months, according to NSE data. The 80 million unique PAN (permanent account number) investors correspond roughly to around 50 million unique households in the country. This amounts to around 17% of households investing directly in the Indian stock market via NSE networks. The India growth story is attracting a lot of our youth into the country’s stock market, especially in the equity segment. The regulatory push towards digitalization has also helped, as many investors tend to get put off by the paperwork involved. This steadily increasing penetration reflects the rising depth and maturity of our financial system.
