Revoking Covid restrictions

04 APR,2022 | MEDC

With Covid cases across the country now on a steady decline, many states, including Maharashtra, are revoking Covid restrictions from April 1. Beginning Gudhi Padwa (the Marathi New Year on April 2), wearing masks in Maharashtra will be voluntary, and no vaccination requirement will be needed to travel in public transport and visit public places. Lifting curbs is necessary to restart economic activity on a sustained basis. At the same time, there is need for caution. Many parts of the world are now facing the fourth wave, and so Covid-appropriate behaviour should not be dispensed off in a hurry. Despite the present conditions being relatively benign, India's Covid mix is changing, and there is a need to analyse it carefully and scientifically before coming to any premature conclusions. Forging economic competitiveness by opening up the system matters, but equally important is maintaining public health.
