Government officials are optimistic that GST will be able to garner revenues of over Rs. 1.5 trillion every month from the coming October. The Finance Minister has also emphasized the importance of adequate training to tax officials in frontierareas like better utilization of artificial intelligence, data mining, and the internet of things. All this will go a long way in plugging the revenue leakages currently occurring. The government's emphasis on technology to resolve socioeconomic issues is laudable. Unless we are able to substantially raise our tax revenues, we will not be able to fund many of our publicwelfare programmes. Black sheep particularly thrive in the financial sector of the economy, and the government's determination in dealing firmly with them is commendable.
