India plans to tap solar energy to offer uninterrupted power to cold chain facilities for storing vaccines. This would be a major boost to the nationwide Covid vaccination program, and it stems from the fact that India’s erratic power supply cannot always be relied upon. Solar power usage is not new for storing vaccines in India, but this renewed push is largely after our economy witnessed the devastating effects of Covid. The government has also roped in private players to run cold chain facilities on solar power. The use of solar power will ensure that vaccines are stored safely 24x7, even in the face of unreliable electricity supply. An efficient vaccination drive will expedite India’s economic revival, and the innovative use of solar energy will go a long way in giving it a boost.
