The digitalization of India's agricultural sector is all set to get a boost due to the government's recent initiative to involve corporate houses therein. This move is aimed at facilitating stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to take informed decisions at all stages of the production and consumption process. The main objection to it is safety of personal data, including that of private information relating to individual cultivators. However, the government is preparing a separate policy to regulate the collection, preservation and protection of farm data. A well-organized awareness campaign is now necessary, as the digitalization of Indian agriculture is overdue. Simultaneously, policymakers should ensure that it does not evoke the kind of hostile reaction the three new farm laws recently did.
