The government is acting wisely in setting up a digital university to promote education and skill development in India. Equally welcome is the proposed flexibility of the institution. It will have multiple entry and exit frameworks, along with an academic bank of credits, to harness student potential. Indian industry now needs to be proactive in adopting these policy reforms and maximizing these flexible frameworks. Appropriate education and skill development plays a key role in converting our demographic dividend into the nation’s biggest socioeconomic asset. Butthis system should cater to every section of society, and not just the privileged. A competitive education system is probably the best way to achieve inclusive growth at scale, and it should be utilized for strategic leapfrogging.
