Lessons from the crisis

27 APR,2020 | MEDC

The Prime Minister has rightly said that self-reliance is our biggest lesson from the Covid-19 crisis. A more decentralized policy approach will also benefit us, as it is the collective power of the villages that propels the country forward. We need to realize that Western models will not always work here, as our grassroots’ realities are different. We should rely more on home-grown solutions, while simultaneously remembering that we are living in an increasingly interconnected world. Small businesses should be promoted more aggressively as they form the building blocks of our economy. Much more investment needs to flow into infrastructure development, particularly healthcare infrastructure, and especially in the rural areas, where the majority of our population continues to reside. Finally, our education system needs strengthening, as that forms the core of building an ethically responsible society.
