The NRF will fund, coordinate and promote educational research in the country. NRF would ensure that the overall research ecosystem in the country is strengthened with focus on identified thrust areas relevant to national priorities. A progressive and research-oriented structure for the NRF would be worked out. It is heartening to know that the government is placing emphasis on developing education and research related activities in the country. The draft New Education Policy (NEP) is a step in that direction and this announcement takes it further down the road. There is no way India can aspire to compete with the developed world if we do not pay special attention to nurturing our education and research related activities. This budget provides a much-needed focus into that vitally important area.
