The creation of the Indian Space Association (ISA), which is essentially an industry forum including private companies as well as the government-run ISRO, is a step in the right direction. There are huge opportunities for PPPs in space-related areas, and they have a direct bearing on national economic development. America's NASA experience clearly indicates how suitable PPPs can lead to many positive outcomes. For India, PPPs could accelerate the acquisition of the necessary technical know-how for building and launching large commercial satellites. This, in turn, could take broadband to remote locations and help fulfil the promise of Digital India. It could also lead to the development of a vast range of related technologies for nation building activities. Here, it is worth remembering that advances in computing, chip design, robotics, solar energy, autonomous vehicles, and water management were all driven by space research before finding civilian applications.
