The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an above-normal monsoon in 2024, which could be quantitatively around 106% of the long period average (LPA). This reflects the consensus most weather experts have on the Indian monsoon this year. Thus, it is unlikely that the monsoon could pose a risk to India’s economic outlook, particularly its agricultural sector. The IMD said that almost 75-80% of the country’s landmass is likely to receive normal monsoon this year, except for some areas in the extreme Northwest, East, and Northeast India. It added that there is just a 2% chance of the rains being deficient. That is good news for domestic industry and our economy as a whole.
