Global trade rebounding

26 MAR,2024 | MEDC

International trade is expected to rebound in 2024, reversing last year’s downturn amid lingering geopolitical uncertainties, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). But UNCTAD also warned that logistical challenges caused by geopolitical factors such as shipping disruptions in the Red Sea, Black Sea and the Panama Canal could raise costs and disrupt supply chains, thereby casting shadows on this rosy outlook. The comparison of annual and quarterly growth suggests significant improvement in macroeconomic indicators for several countries, even though the overall statistics for 2023 continue to remain negative. 2024 will not be without its share of risks at both the national and global levels.
