Covid has institutionalized the need for a robust healthcare infrastructure to face India's emerging socioeconomic challenges. This includes the development of a new digital backbone to boost medical tourism in the country. Innovation is needed: today's vaccines cannot always be produced in the volume required for the entire system, and they often cannot keep pace with the evolution of some of the newer virus strains. From the policy perspective, better R&D and more efficient manufacturing may help resolve that issue. Healthcare research in Indiatoday needs to invest strategically in a new generation of post-pandemic technologies. The need of the hour is a good-governance revolution in the provision of robust healthcare facilities to the underprivileged. Both state and central governments now face a big responsibility – and equally big expectations – in the healthcare sector over the coming years.
