Boosting last mile connectivity (LMC)

22 NOV,2020 | MEDC

LMC has a critical role to play in determining the efficacy of India’s governance system. In a sense, Covid has accelerated the importance of this concept, as demonstrated by the recent spurt of policy announcements under the Atmanirbhar initiative. LMC is especially important in India’s rural and agricultural sector, wherein gaining genuine access to government services can be a matter of life or death to millions. If inclusive socio-economic growth is to be a reality, reliable electricity and water supply have to reach every village in the country, and for that, there can be no compromise on LMC. The flip side of this approach is a tendency to micromanage the system. However, the pandemic has forced us to reach a stage wherein a grassroots and structural approach to the economy has become imperative. It is time we recognize that there is no option for boosting LMC.
