India's recovering economy

12 OCT,2020 | MEDC

As economic activity resumes, some workplaces have started restoring their employees’ salaries in a graded manner to achieve pre-Covid levels before the end of the year. This is a positive development which is gradually taking shape across many different sectors, in a manner that should be welcome for the forthcoming festive season. Many employeestook pay cuts to navigate the uncertainty surrounding them due to the lockdown. Hopefully, that painful phase of the pandemic is forever behind us, so that organizations can now aim at boosting employee morale, and retraining the workforce to cope with the new realities. Naturally, we have to maintain realistic expectations regarding the new-normal, which certainly won’t be an economic recovery to pre-Covid levels. However, the way events are unfolding, there is a lot of hope and reason for optimism. Export dependent sectors are still in a wait and watch mode, but much of the economy is now witnessing green shoots of recovery.
