The World Energy Council’s latest Energy Trilemma Index shows India to be among the laggards as far as energy equity and environmental sustainability is concerned. Energy is a cornerstone of infrastructure development and making India a $ 5 trillion economy by 2024 will necessitate both facing and resolving our economic, ideological and political shortcomings. A civilized society can’t give up on public amenities and India cannot afford to lose the global perception battle. Governance and performance management must combine to create a culture of excellence with sustainable and inclusive infrastructure development as its core strategy. India has missed its tryst with destiny for many reasons, but one of them was surely the quality of our infrastructure. We need to overcome this deficit if we are to benefit from the ongoing US-China trade war and sharpen our international comparative advantages.
