A UN panel co-chaired by US philanthropist Melinda Gates and Chinese businessman Jack Ma has made a strong case for global cooperation in establishing digitization all over the world. This dovetails well with India’s focus on the wider use of digital technology for the benefit of its citizens. In our country at least, digitization will certainly help to reduce the corruption in the system. Some key recommendations of this UN panel include the creation of an inclusive digital economy and society, and human capacity building by generating greater awareness of the pros and cons of digital technologies. These recommendations are compatible with the priorities of the present government of India. It is obvious that going digital is no longer optional, and India needs to be in the forefront of such technological breakthroughs, at least as far as they pertain to the developing economies and the improvement of their domestic infrastructures.
