The government of Maharashtra is working on a new system of registration of land title that will ensure single point availability of a range of terrestrial information. The state’s move is seen as a pilot project for a national rollout of online land title records with the government. The new system will provide transparency and accessibility of information on land and its related transactions. That will also enable smoothening the financing of such transactions. The records will contain details related to immovable property owned by an individual, nature of ownership, charge or covenant on the land, and other relevant particulars. This is certainly a step in the right direction, as fraud often occurs when dealing with property related issues all over India.
